If you are currently running your business alone, you will no doubt have found that this comes with certain limitations. You could just take on one or more employees to help, but you might also consider taking on a business partner.

Here are three of the most popular reasons that people opt for a business partner rather than (or as well as) employees:

1. Additional finance

Maybe you have plenty of money in the bank with which to move your business forward. If you don’t then a business partner could bring that. The extra money could allow you to grow your business in a way you currently cannot afford.

2. Sharing the decisions

Some business decisions are straightforward while others are much more complex. They might be complex because you don’t have the required knowledge or experience in a certain area to make them. Or just because the options are not clear-cut. The right business partner could help on both accounts.

3. Reducing the burden

While an employee can cover many aspects of a job, you might not trust them to do certain things. For example, handling the finances while you go on vacation. A business partner should be more invested in the business so hopefully you can trust them to cover you at all or at least most levels. They can also share the load on important everyday tasks taking some of the stress off you.

If you are considering a business partnership be sure you learn what sort of things you would need to specify in your contract.
